An Open Letter to My Readers

Well, it happened… I made the rookie mistake of forgetting to press “save” while editing my site. Before I could turn back I had erased everything. And I mean everything. The worst part? I didn’t have a back-up saved on my computer when I needed it most.

Realizing all of my content had been sent into the void was heart-wrenching and painful. I had several months worth of content saved in my “drafts”. Photos, articles, announcement pieces. All of it.

Of course, this is totally my doing and it could have easily been avoided with the click of one single button. I did not foresee this happening on a random Tuesday night, but here we are. People make mistakes. That’s life. Growing pains are part of the process.

I knew from the moment I started this site (the old one, haha) that there would be obstacles and challenges. This certainly throws a wrench in my six-month plan but it’s not the end of the world. I produced great content for my old site. Content I was proud of and that gained readership. I am capable of creating content that is just as good, if not better. This is a set back, not the end of the road.

In moments like these, it feels so tempting to throw in the towel and call it quits. And for about 30 minutes after the fact, I wanted to. I really did. But once I was able to take a deep breath, I realized that this was an opportunity to have a second shot. To post even better content, build an even more seamless site. Second chances don’t come around often. When they do happen, embrace them with open arms and seize the opportunity.

This mindset can be applied in various ways to traveling. Things might not always go to plan… The museum you desperately wanted to visit is closed. The concert you planned to attend is cancelled. The flight you booked got delayed. Of course, grieving and coping with the situation at hand is valid but it is not the final sentiment. If you allow these smaller pieces to impact your overall trip, you lose sight of the true purpose of traveling: growth. To travel is to extend your mind beyond its comfort zone, beyond familiarity. Embark willingly into the unknown.

So, my dear readers, I hope you will continue to grow alongside me and my blog despite this minor setback. While I am restoring the bones of my site and queuing up new content, connect with me on social media or shoot me an email. I would love to chat and discuss travel, food, adventure, and life with you all. Stay tuned for new content and articles rolling out on the blog within the next few weeks.

Ciao!

  1. Hey Sydney, somehow I got to reading this very unfortunate post, then couldn’t find your website anymore so super glad you’re back at it! If you got the ball rolling once, you can get the ball rolling again, probably faster this time 😀

    1. Hi, Cat! Thanks so much for your comment. I’m hoping to get everything back up and running smoothly over the next couple weeks (if not sooner!). It’s always frustrating when something like this happens, but I’m trying to be optimistic–haha! Thank you so much for following along 🙂
