Throughout the PNW, temperatures can dip well below freezing—especially in the backcountry or on the slopes. Layering with a heated, waterproof jacket can make a huge difference and provide an extra level of warmth that regular jackets alone can’t.

As someone who loves recreating in the outdoors year-round, whether snowshoeing on snowy trails or braving the chill on a winter kayaking trip, I know the value of dependable gear that can withstand the elements. When I first heard of the Venustas Heated Jacket, I was eager to try it out for myself to see how it stands up to the chilly PNW conditions.

I’ve put this jacket to the test across several winter outings this season—rainy hikes through dense forests, chilly sunset walks along the waterfront with my dog, nighttime ferry rides to Bainbridge Island, and even out skiing and snowshoeing in the mountains outside of Seattle. As a long-time PNW resident and avid adventurer, I’m no stranger to battling the cold, and I’m picky when it comes to the gear I trust to keep me warm. This jacket didn’t just meet my expectations—it exceeded them.

In this review, I’ll break down the key features of the Venustas Heated Jacket, share my firsthand experience wearing it in diverse conditions, and give you an honest assessment of its pros and cons. Venustas Women’s Waterproof Heated Lightweight Jacket – Highlights

  • Waterproof and Windproof (perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and winter hiking!)

What is a Heated Jacket?

A heated jacket is exactly what it sounds like… a jacket that heats up to provide you with added warmth! Sounds pretty great, right?! The built-in heating elements are powered by a rechargeable battery that is plugged in with a cord attached to the jacket.

Unlike traditional insulated jackets that rely solely on materials like down or synthetic fibers to trap body heat, heated jackets take warmth to the next level by actively generating heat at the push of a button!

Heated jackets are not just functional but also designed to be lightweight, breathable, and versatile. Many come with features like waterproof shells, detachable hoods, and multiple pockets, making them an excellent choice for outdoor enthusiasts, commuters, and anyone who refuses to let the cold disrupt their plans.

Key Features of the Venustas Heated Jacket

Long Battery Life With High-Powered Warmth

The Venustas Heated Jacket features adjustable heat settings so you can easily customize the level of warmth to suit your activity or environment, whether you’re tackling a snowy hike, braving freezing wind during your commute, or enjoying outdoor sports in winter.

The jacket has three different heat settings to allow you to adjust the warmth of the jacket. The included lithium-ion battery will last 3 hours on the highest heat setting, 6 hours on the medium setting, and 10 hours on the lowest heat setting. This is a great length of time that will accommodate pretty much any outdoor activity!

In my personal experience, the battery charges up pretty fast, too. It took me roughly 2 hours to charge the power bank to full capacity after being completely depleted. This is awesome because even if you forget to plug it in the night before your activity, you can likely still charge to nearly full capacity if you plug it in a couple hours before you depart!

For additional context to help inform this review, I am 5’2″ and I wear a size medium in the Venustas Waterproof Heated Lightweight Jacket in the color “Colorblock Pink”.

Detachable Helmet-Compatible Hood

One of my favorite features of the Venustas Heated Jacket is its detachable, helmet-compatible hood. This makes the skier in me very happy because it allows me to keep warm without compromising my safety!

When I went cross-country skiing while wearing the Venustas Heated Jacket, I was able to layer a beanie underneath my helmet and still have room to pull up the jacket hood without friction or resistance. Two thumbs up from me!

If you’re not doing an activity that requires a helmet or hood, you can easily take the hood off and store it separately. It folds down pretty compactly and you could even fit it in your backpack or jacket pocket!

There is a separate zippered pocket on the left side of the heated jacket to house the rechargeable lithium-ion battery and the battery is included with the purchase of the jacket

Multiple Pockets for Ski Pass, Keys, Phone, Wallet, and More!

The Venustas Heated Jacket has a total of 7 functional pockets including two zippered chest pockets, two zippered hand pockets, one zippered sleeve pocket, one inner chest pocket, and one battery pocket!

The zippered sleeve pocket is super convenient for stashing your ski pass and ID while you’re out hitting the slopes.

The soft interior lining of the hand pockets also feels great and keeps your hands protected from the elements. I felt like there were more than enough pockets to store my phone, wallet, ski pass, keys, sunglasses, vlog camera, and even snacks! Plus, if you decide you don’t need the battery for heating the jacket one afternoon, you can unplug the battery and free up an extra pocket!

Pros of the Venustas Waterproof Heated Jacket

I personally love my Venustas Heated Jacket and it has now become a staple piece in my layering system! Here are a couple more reasons why this heated jacket is my new go-to winter jacket:

  • Great for Multiple Activities: Whether you’re hiking, skiing, commuting, or attending outdoor events, the Venustas Heated Jacket transitions seamlessly between activities, making it a versatile piece of outerwear for winter!
  • Stylish Design with Practical Features: The sleek, modern look ensures you don’t have to compromise style for functionality, making it equally suitable for outdoor adventures or casual winter outings.

Cons of the Venustas Waterproof Heated Jacket

To be completely honest, it was hard to find any flaws of this jacket. It fit my needs perfectly and I love it! However, in general there are a couple potential cons or drawbacks to consider depending on your needs and interests.

  • High Upfront Cost: Heated jackets often come with a higher price tag compared to traditional jackets because of the battery-powered heating functionality. Buying a heated jacket is definitely an investment, but in my opinion it’s 100% worth it for the superior warmth, weather protection, and the ability to extend your time outdoors! Even still, the price tag on the Venustas Heated Jacket is very reasonable for a jacket as functional, stylish, and warm as it is.
  • Weight of the Battery: With the added weight of the battery pack, the jacket does feel slightly heavier when you’re wearing it or carrying it. I personally didn’t mind or even notice much of a difference but I could definitely see how someone might consider this a drawback. The weight is generally well-distributed and minimal, especially considering the comfort and warmth the heating elements provide during cold-weather activities!

What Types of Activities Can You Use This Jacket For?

One of the main things I love about the Venustas Heated Jacket is its versatility. It’s great for a range of activities in different settings—whether you’re taking your dog for a walk through the neighborhood on a chilly morning or hitting the slopes in the backcountry.

I personally love wearing my Venustas jacket when I go Nordic skiing (also known as cross-country skiing) and snowshoeing. The 5 heating zones built into the jacket keep me warm and toasty even when I’m being hit with wind, rain, or snow (or sometimes all three at once!).

This jacket is also perfect for downhill alpine skiing, winter hiking, snowboarding, ice fishing, and more! A small detail I adore about this jacket is that it has a zippered card pocket on the left sleeve to stash your ski pass and ID when you’re hitting the slopes.

FAQs About the Venustas Heated Jacket

How long does the battery last?

The battery life depends on the heat setting you use. On the low setting, it can last up to 10 hours, while the medium setting provides around 6 hours of heat, and the high setting offers about 3 hours. For longer outings, you can carry a spare battery to extend the heating time!

Is the jacket waterproof?

Yes! This Venustas heated jacket is waterproof and windproof, designed to keep you dry in rain and snow. The outer shell is made from durable materials that repel water while maintaining breathability, making it perfect for wet winter conditions!

Is the jacket warm without the heating function?

Even if you don’t plug the battery in, the jacket on its own is still pretty warm. It’s made with lightweight FELLEX® insulation and high-tech silver mylar thermal fabric to ensure you stay cozy and warm! It can absolutely be worn as an outer shell over top a warm layering system, even without the battery pack.

Can you bring this heated jacket on an airplane?

Absolutely—the Venustas Heated Jacket is TSA-friendly! Both the power bank and the heated jacket can be carried on a plane. However, if you need to put the heated jacket in checked luggage, you have to take the power bank/battery out and put it in your carry-on luggage because lithium ion batteries are prohibited in checked baggage.
