TravelPayouts Review: How I Generated $11,700+ in Travel Bookings as a Small Travel Blogger

When I started my travel blog in 2021, I had no idea how bloggers actually made money. I’d see creators with millions of followers traveling the world and assumed that level of success was reserved for influencers with massive audiences.

Five years later, I’ve learned that’s simply not true.

While building my blog, I’ve discovered that you don’t need millions of followers to generate meaningful income. With the right content and affiliate strategy, it’s possible to earn passive income by helping travelers book hotels, tours, rental cars, and other experiences they’re already planning to purchase.

One of the biggest contributors to my affiliate income has been TravelPayouts. Since joining the platform, I’ve generated more than $11,700 in travel bookings across 200+ reservations, earning nearly $1,000 in commissions along the way.

In this review, I’ll share exactly what’s worked for me, including the affiliate programs that generate the most revenue, the AI-powered tools I use to save time, and the blog posts that have driven the highest number of bookings.

This post contains affiliate links. If you use these links to purchase or sign up for a program, I may earn a commission. I use various programs to include affiliate links in my blog posts to keep my content free for all to read. Should you choose to book through any of my links, thank you so much!

TLDR: My TravelPayouts Results at a Glance

  • $11,700+ in travel bookings (accommodations, rental cars, activities, etc.)
  • 200+ bookings generated
  • Nearly $1,000 in commissions earned
  • 192,000+ unique visits to pages where TravelPayouts is enabled (Nov. 2024 – June 2026)
  • 14,500 average monthly sessions (2022 – 2026)

What is TravelPayouts?

TravelPayouts is a travel affiliate platform that basically works as a one-stop-shop for creating travel affiliate content. It works by allowing content creators to earn commissions by referring travelers to hotels, tours, rental cars, travel insurance providers, airport transfers, and other travel-related services.

Instead of applying to dozens of individual affiliate programs, TravelPayouts brings hundreds of travel brands together under a single dashboard. This makes it easy to discover new affiliate partners, create tracking links, monitor bookings, and track earnings all in one place.

I’ve been using TravelPayouts on my travel blog for years to monetize destination guides, itineraries, hotel reviews, and activity recommendations. Over time, it has become one of my favorite affiliate platforms because it allows me to manage multiple travel programs from a single account while providing detailed reporting on clicks, bookings, and commissions!

More recently, TravelPayouts has also introduced AI-powered tools through TravelPayouts Drive, which helps identify monetization opportunities, optimize content, and surface relevant affiliate offers based on the content already published on your website. I’ll share more about those tools later in this review!

Who is TravelPayouts For?

TravelPayouts is for anyone who write or creates travel-focused content! Whether you’re publishing on a traditional travel blog (like this one!), or if you create other travel content on social media or through a newsletter, TravelPayouts can work for you.

In my experience, it works particularly well for content targeting travelers who are actively planning a trip and looking for places to stay, things to do, or transportation options. The closer your audience is to making a booking decision, the greater the earning potential tends to be.

The TravelPayouts Programs That Generate the Most Revenue for My Blog

One of the things I like most about TravelPayouts is that it gives me access to a wide variety of travel affiliate programs through a single platform. While I’ve experimented with several partners over the years, there are a handful of top performers that consistently perform well on my site.

For the purpose of this breakdown, I’ve narrowed down the data set to focus specifically on 2025 (unless otherwise notated). Here are the top 3 TravelPayouts programs that generated the most revenue during that period!

Program

Category

2025 Booking Value

TripAdvisor Experiences

Tours & Activities

$2,570 +

Viator

Tours & Activities

$917+

DiscoverCars

Rental Cars

$378+

TripAdvisor Experiences

TripAdvisor Experiences has been my top-performing TravelPayouts program by a significant margin. This program allows me to earn commissions on tours, attraction tickets, guided experiences, and other activities travelers book before or during their trips.

This makes a lot of sense given the type of content I publish. Many of my destination guides focus on helping readers decide what to do in a particular city or region, making TripAdvisor Experiences a natural fit. Whether it’s a whale watching tour in Seattle, a glacier excursion in Alaska, or a museum ticket in a major city, readers are often already in planning mode and ready to book.

Viator

Viator is another excellent program for tours, activities, and attraction tickets. Similar to TripAdvisor Experiences, it gives readers an easy way to book experiences directly from the travel guides they’re already reading.

I’ve had success using Viator links within destination guides, itinerary posts, and attraction-focused content where readers are actively researching things to do. When someone is already planning their trip, recommending a relevant tour or experience feels helpful rather than promotional, which tends to lead to stronger conversion rates.

Some of the experiences on Viator are different than what’s available on TripAdvisor, so I make sure to cross-reference both sites to determine which program I want to use when linking to a specific tour or destination.

DiscoverCars

DiscoverCars has been another one of my strongest-performing transportation partners. Since many of my guides feature road trip destinations, national parks, and outdoor adventures, rental cars are often an essential part of the travel planning process.

Rather than recommending a specific rental company, DiscoverCars allows travelers to compare options across multiple providers in one place. I’ve found that these links perform particularly well on destination guides where visitors are researching how to get around once they arrive!

How I Use TravelPayouts Drive to Save Time and Generate Passive Income

One of my favorite features within TravelPayouts is TravelPayouts Drive, an AI-powered system that analyzes your content and visitor behavior to help identify monetization opportunities across your website.

As a travel blogger with dozens of destination guides and itineraries, I love that Drive helps me earn more from content that’s already published without requiring constant manual updates.

Some of my favorite Drive features include:

  • Automatic affiliate link conversion: Drive can detect eligible travel links on your website and automatically convert them into TravelPayouts affiliate links. And you can select which programs/links you do or don’t want to include in your conversion in case you’re working with another affiliate platform!
  • Keyword linking: The tool can identify relevant travel-related keywords and add affiliate links where appropriate.
  • Insert Recommendations: Drive can automatically display relevant hotels, tours, rental cars, and other travel offers that match the topic of a page. I love this tool from a UI-perspective because it looks consistent across all of my different blog posts!
  • Smart previews: Readers can view additional details about travel offers without immediately leaving your website.
  • Behavior-based optimization: Drive adapts to visitor behavior and surfaces relevant offers when travelers are most likely to engage.

Which Posts Generated the Most TravelPayouts Revenue For My Blog?

Exploring which blog posts generated the most TravelPayouts revenue was one of my favorite parts of writing this review. I’m a huge data nerd, so I love identifying patterns and figuring out why certain content performs better than others.

Below, I’ll share the three posts that generated the most TravelPayouts revenue for my blog over the last few years and break down why I think they converted so well.

One pattern stood out immediately: high-intent content consistently outperformed high-traffic content. Each of these posts reaches readers who are actively planning a trip and ready to make booking decisions, which naturally leads to higher affiliate conversions.

whale watching cruise in Alaska as a travel blogger

1. Best Whale Watching Tours in Icy Strait Point, Alaska

Primary Program Used: TripAdvisor Experiences
Booking Value: $3,470+

This whale watching tour comparison guide has been my top-performing TravelPayouts article in the last few years, and looking back, I’m not surprised why.

Even though this is a very niche article about one specific thing to do in a small-scale destination in Alaska, the post very clearly targets those who have already decided that they want to do a whale watching tour in this area. That alone enhances the likelihood of them making a booking for that specific type of tour.

Where this post fills the gap and helps convert bookings at a higher rate is that it directly compares the top 5 best options to help make the choice easier for the reader. That’s always my main goal in sharing travel content: make travel easier and more fun!

Because the article reviews different tour options and helps readers choose the best experience for their trip, adding affiliate links to those excursions is a natural extension of the content. It’s genuinely helpful to the reader while also creating an opportunity to earn a commission when someone books.

The coolest part about this post being monetized through TravelPayouts is that I’ve now more than covered the cost of the actual whale watching tours I’ve taken during multiple trips to Alaska! This is a testament to the power of monetizing your blog content with platforms like TravelPayouts.

Key Takeaway: Content that helps travelers compare and book specific tours tends to convert exceptionally well because readers are already in the decision-making stage of planning their trip.

exploring Juneau Alaska as a travel blogger

2. 30+ Things to Do in Juneau, Alaska

Primary TravelPayouts Program: Viator & GetYourGuide
Booking Value: $960+

This activity-focused blog post has consistently been one of my strongest TravelPayouts performers because it reaches readers who are actively planning their time in Juneau, many of which are visiting via cruise ship.

Rather than focusing on a single attraction, the guide features over 30 things to do, giving me multiple opportunities to recommend bookable tours and experiences throughout the article. Many readers arrive looking for shore excursions, whale watching tours, glacier experiences, and other popular activities, making Viator and GetYourGuide a natural fit.

One thing I’ve noticed is that destination guides covering a wide variety of attractions often perform exceptionally well because they can meet travelers wherever they are in the planning process. Whether someone is looking for one unforgettable excursion or trying to fill an entire day in port, the affiliate recommendations complement the content!

Key Takeaway: Comprehensive destination guides create multiple opportunities to recommend relevant tours and experiences, making them some of the highest-converting content on my site.

exploring mount rainier national park as a travel blogger

3. Ultimate 2 Day Mount Rainier National Park Itinerary

Primary TravelPayouts Program: Expedia
Booking Value: $334+

This 2-day national park itinerary generated the majority of its TravelPayouts revenue through Expedia accommodation bookings.

Since Mount Rainier National Park is difficult to explore in a single day, many readers are looking for nearby places to stay while planning their trip. Recommending hotels throughout the itinerary felt like a natural addition to the guide and gave readers an easy way to book accommodations without leaving the planning process!

This article also reinforced an important lesson for me: you don’t need to write standalone hotel reviews to earn hotel commissions. If your itinerary includes overnight stops, recommending places to stay can provide real value to your readers while creating another monetization opportunity.

Utilizing Drive within TravelPayouts also helped in this case because many of the bookings came from the targeted offers feature, allowing readers to book in a separate pop-up when it’s convenient for them!

Key Takeaway: Itinerary posts are a great place to recommend accommodations because readers are already planning the logistics of their trip, making hotel bookings a natural next step.

My 3 Biggest TravelPayouts Lessons After Generating 200+ Bookings

  • Lesson #1: High-intent bottom of funnel (BoF) content converts better than general travel inspiration content or top of funnel (ToF) content.
  • Lesson #2: Don’t fear AI. Make it work for you. Tools like TravelPayouts’ Drive can help with that.
  • Lesson #3: Small improvements to high-traffic pages often outperform publishing new content.
