I’ve had success using Viator links within destination guides, itinerary posts, and attraction-focused content where readers are actively researching things to do. When someone is already planning their trip, recommending a relevant tour or experience feels helpful rather than promotional, which tends to lead to stronger conversion rates.

Some of the experiences on Viator are different than what’s available on TripAdvisor, so I make sure to cross-reference both sites to determine which program I want to use when linking to a specific tour or destination.

DiscoverCars

DiscoverCars has been another one of my strongest-performing transportation partners. Since many of my guides feature road trip destinations, national parks, and outdoor adventures, rental cars are often an essential part of the travel planning process.

Rather than recommending a specific rental company, DiscoverCars allows travelers to compare options across multiple providers in one place. I’ve found that these links perform particularly well on destination guides where visitors are researching how to get around once they arrive!

This whale watching tour comparison guide has been my top-performing TravelPayouts article in the last few years, and looking back, I’m not surprised why.

Even though this is a very niche article about one specific thing to do in a small-scale destination in Alaska, the post very clearly targets those who have already decided that they want to do a whale watching tour in this area. That alone enhances the likelihood of them making a booking for that specific type of tour.

Where this post fills the gap and helps convert bookings at a higher rate is that it directly compares the top 5 best options to help make the choice easier for the reader. That’s always my main goal in sharing travel content: make travel easier and more fun!

Because the article reviews different tour options and helps readers choose the best experience for their trip, adding affiliate links to those excursions is a natural extension of the content. It’s genuinely helpful to the reader while also creating an opportunity to earn a commission when someone books.

The coolest part about this post being monetized through TravelPayouts is that I’ve now more than covered the cost of the actual whale watching tours I’ve taken during multiple trips to Alaska! This is a testament to the power of monetizing your blog content with platforms like TravelPayouts.

Many readers arrive looking for shore excursions, whale watching tours, glacier experiences, and other popular activities, making Viator and GetYourGuide a natural fit.

One thing I’ve noticed is that destination guides covering a wide variety of attractions often perform exceptionally well because they can meet travelers wherever they are in the planning process. Whether someone is looking for one unforgettable excursion or trying to fill an entire day in port, the affiliate recommendations complement the content!

3. Ultimate 2 Day Mount Rainier National Park Itinerary

This 2-day national park itinerary generated the majority of its TravelPayouts revenue through Expedia accommodation bookings.

Since Mount Rainier National Park is difficult to explore in a single day, many readers are looking for nearby places to stay while planning their trip. Recommending hotels throughout the itinerary felt like a natural addition to the guide and gave readers an easy way to book accommodations without leaving the planning process!

This article also reinforced an important lesson for me: you don’t need to write standalone hotel reviews to earn hotel commissions. If your itinerary includes overnight stops, recommending places to stay can provide real value to your readers while creating another monetization opportunity.

Utilizing Drive within TravelPayouts also helped in this case because many of the bookings came from the targeted offers feature, allowing readers to book in a separate pop-up when it’s convenient for them!
