Best Hotels and Cabins in Leavenworth

In my personal experience, staying in the heart of downtown is the best choice if you want to be surrounded by the full Bavarian charm of Leavenworth. You can walk to all of the shops, restaurants, and beer gardens, and you’ll be right in the middle of the festivals and events that make this mountain town so popular.

I’d especially recommend staying in Downtown Leavenworth if you’re visiting for a festival like Oktoberfest or the Christmas season. It can get quite crowded during the fall and winter season, and staying downtown means you won’t have to worry about driving to and from your accommodation! Plus, everything downtown is extremely scenic and you’ll feel like you’re living in a storybook by staying downtown.

However, there are also a couple of other options for visitors who prefer a more secluded stay without being in the middle of the action. Icicle Creek and Wenatchee are also great areas nearby if staying in downtown Leavenworth isn’t an option.

Best Cozy Hotels in Downtown Leavenworth

PostHotel

If you’re looking for a luxe stay in Downtown Leavenworth, I highly recommend checking out PostHotel. PostHotel is an adults-only hotel that honestly feels more like a European alpine spa retreat than a small-town hotel in Washington. The rooms are spacious and modern, many with balconies that look out over the Wenatchee River or the surrounding mountains.

What makes PostHotel special is its emphasis on the holistic wellness experience during your stay. Guests have access to multiple pools, saunas, and steam rooms, which makes it easy to spend a full day relaxing without ever leaving the property.

Breakfast and lunch are included with your stay, so you never have to think about where to eat before heading out for the day. Because of its popularity, PostHotel books up months in advance, especially for peak events like Oktoberfest and the Christmas Lighting Festival. If you manage to get a reservation, staying here is absolutely worth it for the one-of-a-kind experience you’ll have!

Landhaus Erika

Landhaus Erika is a charming inn located in the heart of Downtown Leavenworth. The property has fewer rooms than most of the hotels in town, which makes for a quiet and relaxed environment. The decor leans traditional with alpine theming, but you can still expect modern touches in the accommodations.

The location is a few blocks from Front Street, so you are close enough to walk to the shops, restaurants, and beer gardens while still enjoying a quieter setting at night. I personally love Landhaus Erika because it feels cozy and very on-theme for a stay in Leavenworth!

Obertal Inn

Obertal Inn is one of the most convenient places to stay in Leavenworth thanks to its central location just steps from Front Street. It’s also a great place to stay if you’re visiting with a group or a larger family but still want the convenience of being downtown.

In addition to standard hotel rooms, Obertal also offers townhouse-style suites with kitchens and extra space. These are a great choice if you want more flexibility during your trip. Obertal Inn has the perfect blend of comfort, character, and location, making it an easy pick for travelers who want a straightforward and welcoming stay downtown.

Best Budget-Friendly Hotels in Downtown Leavenworth

Leavenworth Village Inn

Leavenworth Village Inn is a straightforward and affordable place to stay right downtown. Depending on the time of year, you can usually find a great rate on a standard room for a night or weekend trip. Speaking of, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location makes it easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and tasting rooms. Leavenworth Village Inn is a great pick if you want convenience without the higher price tag of the luxury or boutique hotels!

Fairbridge Inn & Suites

Fairbridge Inn & Suites offers simple rooms at a fair price and adds value with free breakfast, an indoor pool, and included parking! This is a huge perk if you’re driving to Leavenworth from Seattle for the weekend. Fairbridge Inn is just a short walk from downtown and works well if you are looking for a dependable budget stay that still keeps you close to everything in Downtown Leavenworth.

Best Cabins and Unique Places to Stay in Leavenworth

If you’d rather stay in a cabin or bed and breakfast style accommodation, you’ll be able to find plenty of them in and around the Leavenworth area. Traveling solo or with just one other person would mean you could very comfortably enjoy a small cabin in the woods outside of Leavenworth, or a cozy condo in the heart of Downtown Leavenworth.

If you need more space but still want to be close to the downtown area, a larger cabin like THIS one would likely work perfectly! Plus, bonus points for this cabin being dog-friendly!

FAQs About Staying in Leavenworth

When is the best time to visit Leavenworth?

Leavenworth is a great year-round destination, but the best time really depends on what kind of experience you want. In the summer, the town is buzzing with hikers, rafters, and wine-tasting crowds, while fall brings Oktoberfest weekends and golden larch hikes in the surrounding mountains. Winter transforms Leavenworth into a real life snow globe, with skiing and snowshoeing nearby.

Based on my personal experience, visiting between Thanksgiving and Christmas when the Christmastown Village of Lights Festival takes over the town is the most magical time of year to stay in Leavenworth. The entire village glows with twinkling lights, carolers fill the streets, and it feels like stepping into a Hallmark movie.

Best Festivals and Events in Leavenworth

My personal favorite time of year to visit Leavenworth is during the Christmas holiday season. The town feels extra magical when the Christmas lights are all lit up, and I also love seeing the surrounding mountaintops covered in snow. Of course, there are several other festivals and events year round that are fun to experience in Leavenworth. See below for a list of Leavenworth festivals and important dates.

  • Oktoberfest – October 3-4 + 10-11 + 17-18, 2025
  • Christmastown Village of Lights Festival – November 28 through December 24, 2025
  • Winter Karneval – weekends in January
  • Maifest Spring Festival – weekends in May

Is Leavenworth walkable?

Yes, if you’re staying in Downtown Leavenworth you can easily walk everywhere. The core of Leavenworth is compact, with shops, restaurants, and tasting rooms clustered along Front Street and the nearby blocks. Many hotels and inns are within a few minutes’ walk of the main area, which means you can park your car and forget about it until you are ready to leave.

If you choose to stay a little outside of town or at a cabin, you will need a car to get back and forth, but once you are in the heart of downtown, everything is best explored on foot.

Do you need a car to visit Leavenworth?

Technically, you don’t need a car to visit Leavenworth but it does make the trip slightly more efficient and direct. The drive through the Cascade Mountains is beautiful, and having your own vehicle makes it simple to stop at trailheads, viewpoints, or wineries along the way. Once you’re in town, most of downtown is walkable, but you will still want to drive or rent a car if you plan to explore beyond the village, like Lake Wenatchee or Icicle Creek.

That said, you don’t necessarily have to drive to do a weekend trip to Leavenworth from Seattle. The Amtrak train stops right in Leavenworth at Icicle Station, which is a few minutes outside of downtown. From there, you can catch a shuttle or rideshare into the village. This is a scenic and relaxing way to arrive, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing. Just be aware that timing of the trains can fluctuate and it’s good to have flexible plans on your arrival day in case the train is delayed.

There are also guided day trips from Seattle that include roundtrip transportation, so you can sit back and enjoy the mountain views without worrying about directions or parking!

How many days do you need in Leavenworth?

Most people find that two to three days in Leavenworth is the sweet spot, usually over a weekend. That gives you enough time to wander through the Bavarian-style shops, enjoy a couple of meals at local breweries or restaurants, and still get outside for a hike, a float on the river, or a visit nearby Lake Wenatchee.

If you’re short on time or don’t have a full weekend to visit, you can absolutely see the highlights on a day trip, but staying overnight makes the experience feel more relaxed and gives you the chance to enjoy the village once the day-trippers head home.
