What to Pack for Seattle in June (A Local’s Guide!)
In June, Seattle starts fully transitioning into summer. The days are incredibly long, and everyone suddenly wants to spend as much time outside as possible after months of gray weather. That’s why I’ve put together this guide on exactly what to pack for Seattle in June!
As a Seattle local who spends a lot of time hiking, exploring the city, taking ferry trips, and getting outside around the Pacific Northwest, June is one of my favorite months here. You’ll usually get a really nice mix of comfortable weather, fewer crowds than peak summer, and access to some of the best outdoor experiences around Seattle.
That said, packing for Seattle in June can still be a little tricky if you’ve never been here before. Mornings often feel cool and overcast, afternoons can get surprisingly warm and sunny, and evenings near the water can still feel chilly. Plus, if you’re planning day trips to places like Mount Rainier, Bainbridge Island, or the San Juan Islands, you’ll want to be prepared for a mix of city exploring and outdoor adventures.
This guide covers exactly what I’d recommend packing for Seattle in June based on years of living here and exploring the Pacific Northwest in early summer!

What to Pack for Seattle in June

Moisture-Wicking Shirts
June in Seattle is basically the start of non-stop outdoor season. Between hiking, boating, and long walking days, you’ll probably spend way more time outside than you expect.
I always recommend packing moisture wicking shirts instead of basic cotton tees this time of year. June mornings can still feel cool and damp, but afternoons often warm up quickly once the sun comes out. Cotton tends to stay sweaty or damp, while moisture wicking fabrics dry much faster and stay comfortable all day.
Personally, I almost always pack lightweight merino wool or athletic style tees from brands like Smartwool or Arc’teryx because they work just as well for hiking as they do for casually exploring the city.
Clear Crossbody Bag (for Sports Events!)
If you’re visiting Seattle in June and planning to attend a Mariners game, concert, or major event like the 2026 FIFA World Cup, make sure to pack a clear crossbody bag. Bag policies at Seattle venues are strict, and showing up with the wrong bag can quickly turn into a frustrating experience at security.
This becomes even more important with major events happening throughout the city, including Mariners games at T-Mobile Park, concerts at Climate Pledge Arena, and upcoming FIFA World Cup matches at Lumen Field.
Lumen Field and T Mobile Park both allow clear bags up to 12” x 6” x 12”. Climate Pledge Arena allows clear bags up to 14” x 14” x 6”, plus non clear small clutches or wallets up to 4” x 6” x 1.5”.
To keep things simple, I recommend bringing a small clear crossbody bag that fits within the 12” x 6” x 12” size limit. That way, you can use the same bag for Mariners games, concerts, FIFA World Cup events, and other stadium events around Seattle without having to worry about different venue policies. This clear bag is perfect for bringing to any of the major Seattle stadiums or venues!
Polarized Sunglasses
Polarized sunglasses are one of the most underrated things to pack for Seattle in June. Once summer starts creeping in, the sun can get surprisingly intense, especially around the water and during long days outside.
I wear sunglasses constantly in June whether I’m walking along the Seattle waterfront, taking a ferry ride across Puget Sound, driving out toward the mountains, or hiking up to alpine lakes. Polarized lenses help reduce glare from the water and make it much easier to see comfortably during bright afternoons.
Even if the forecast looks mild, Seattle gets nearly 16 hours of daylight in June, so you’ll likely spend a lot more time outside than you expect!
Lightweight Fleece Jacket
Even though June starts feeling pretty warm in Seattle, evenings can still get surprisingly chilly, especially near the water or in the mountains.
I almost always bring a lightweight fleece with me this time of year because it’s the perfect extra layer that adds warmth without taking up much space in your bag.
As someone who spends a lot of time outside around the Pacific Northwest, this is one of those layers I end up using constantly in June even when the forecast looks warm.
Comfortable Sneakers or Trail Runners
You’re going to walk a lot in Seattle in June, so comfortable shoes are absolutely essential. Between steep hills, long sightseeing days, waterfront walks, and outdoor adventures, your feet will definitely notice if you packed the wrong pair.
I usually recommend bringing either supportive sneakers or trail runners depending on what you have planned. If you’re sticking mostly to the city, a comfortable pair of walking shoes is perfect. But if you’re planning hikes or day trips to places like Mount Rainier, the San Juan Islands, or Olympic National Park, trail runners are a much better option.
Personally, I wear trail runners most of the summer because they’re comfortable enough for city exploring while still handling dirt trails, uneven terrain, and muddy conditions if needed. Plus, they’re lighter and easier to pack than boots!
Portable Charger
A portable charger is one of those things I never travel around Seattle without in June. Between using Google Maps, taking photos, checking event schedules, and filming content all day, it’s very easy to burn through your phone battery faster than expected.
June also brings super long daylight hours to Seattle, which usually means full days spent outside exploring. I’ve had plenty of days where I left in the early morning and didn’t get back until after sunset because the weather was too nice to go inside.
Having a small portable charger with you makes a huge difference, especially if you’re planning hikes, day trips, concerts, or long sightseeing days around the city!
Reusable Water Bottle
If you’re visiting Seattle in June, you’ll definitely want to pack a reusable water bottle. Between hiking, walking around the city, ferry rides, and day trips, you’ll likely spend most of your day out exploring and it’s smart to have water on you at all times.
Seattle’s tap water is safe to drink, so it’s easy to refill your bottle throughout the day instead of constantly buying single-use plastic bottles. I almost always carry one with me whether I’m heading into the mountains or just spending the afternoon walking around neighborhoods like Capitol Hill, Fremont, or Pike Place Market.
You can’t go wrong with a simple Nalgene Water Bottle and I love decorating mine with stickers from my travels!
Bathing suit (For Lake Swimming!)
A lot of people don’t think to pack a bathing suit for Seattle, but June is actually a great time to have one with you, especially if you’re planning day trips or outdoor adventures.
Seattle is surrounded by water and there’s a good chance you’ll end up at an alpine lake, on a hot tub boat (yes, these exist!), at a sauna, chilling on the beach, or kayaking out on the water at some point during your trip. June is also when locals really start taking advantage of the warmer weather and longer daylight hours.
I usually throw a swimsuit into my bag even for shorter weekend trips around Washington because you never know when you’ll end up wanting it. It’s one of those items that’s easy to pack and surprisingly useful once summer starts kicking in here!
Plus, it’s especially nice to have a bathing suit in tow to take advantage of the swimming pool or hot tub if your hotel has one! This iconic hotel has one of my favorite hotel pools in all of Seattle.
FAQs About Visiting Seattle in June
What is Anticipated for Seattle weather in June?
June is when Seattle really starts transitioning into summer, but the weather can still be a little unpredictable depending on the day. Most days are mild and comfortable, with daytime temperatures usually ranging from the mid 60s to low 70s.
One thing that surprises a lot of visitors is how long the days are this time of year. Seattle gets nearly 16 hours of daylight in June, which means you can easily spend full days outside exploring the city, hiking, or taking day trips around the Pacific Northwest.
That said, June doesn’t always mean nonstop sunshine. Mornings are often cool and overcast, and it’s still possible to run into light drizzle or chilly evenings, especially near the water. I usually recommend packing light layers so you’re comfortable no matter how the weather shifts throughout the day.

Is It Worth Going to Seattle in June?
Yes, June is honestly one of my favorite times to recommend people visit Seattle! You get a really nice balance of mild weather, long daylight hours, and fewer crowds than peak summer.
This is the time of year when locals fully start taking advantage of being outside again. Farmers markets get busier, patios fill up, hiking trails become more accessible, and the waterfront feels much more energetic. It’s also a great month for day trips around the Pacific Northwest since mountain roads and higher elevation trails typically begin reopening.
I also think June is one of the best months for travelers who want to experience Seattle before the busiest part of summer hits in July and August. You’ll usually get slightly lower hotel prices, fewer crowds at major attractions, and a little more breathing room overall while still getting beautiful weather.
What to Wear in Seattle in June?
Seattle is all about layers, no matter the season. This is especially true, though, in June. Mornings and evenings are usually cool, while afternoons can feel surprisingly warm once the sun comes out.
For most days in Seattle, you’ll be comfortable wearing lightweight clothing like moisture wicking t-shirts, leggings, athletic wear, jeans, casual dresses, or breathable pants paired with comfortable walking shoes or trail runners. I’d also recommend bringing a lightweight fleece or jacket for cooler evenings, ferry rides, or outdoor activities near the water.
Seattle is a pretty casual dress city due to tech culture and a more laid back vibe, so you’ll be fine wearing dark jeans and an ironed shirt to even the nicest restaurants. Overall, don’t stress too much about your wardrobe outside of the basics!
What Are Some Things to Do in Seattle in June?
June is one of the best months to take advantage of Seattle’s location and start exploring beyond just downtown. The longer daylight hours and improving weather make this the perfect time for scenic day trips and outdoor experiences around the Puget Sound region.
One of my favorite easy June activities is taking the walk-on ferry to Bainbridge Island for the day. You get incredible skyline views leaving Seattle, plus access to cute shops, waterfront restaurants, wineries, and scenic walking trails once you arrive. You can also take the West Seattle water taxi over to Alki Beach, which is one of my favorite spots in the city for beach walks, biking, grabbing food by the water, or watching the sunset with views of the Seattle skyline.
June is also an amazing time to visit Mount Rainier National Park, especially as wildflowers and higher elevation trails begin reopening for the season. If you don’t have a rental car, there are several guided day tours that leave directly from downtown Seattle and make visiting the park really easy.
And if seeing wildlife is on your bucket list, June is a great time to book a whale watching tour departing from Pier 66 downtown. You’ll have the chance to spot orcas, humpback whales, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, and other marine wildlife while exploring the waters around the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound!
Final Thoughts: What to Pack for Seattle in June
Packing for Seattle in June is really all about being prepared for a mix of city exploring, outdoor adventures, and constantly changing temperatures throughout the day. Even though summer is starting to arrive, layers are still key here, especially if you’re spending time near the water or heading into the mountains.
As someone who has lived in Seattle for years and spends a huge amount of time exploring both the city and the surrounding Pacific Northwest, these are genuinely the items I find myself reaching for over and over again in June. I hope it proves helpful in your packing process!
